Hey everyone! I've just booked a trip to the Azores and I'm curious about the less touristy experiences. What unique activities and spots should I not miss?

Make sure to visit the Terra Nostra Garden in Furnas on São Miguel Island. The thermal pools there are surrounded by lush gardens, and it’s a perfect spot to unwind.

If you're up for a hike, climbing Pico Mountain on Pico Island is a must. It’s the highest point in Portugal and offers stunning views of the Atlantic and neighboring islands.

You have to try ‘Cozido das Furnas’ where they cook the food underground using volcanic steam. It’s not only delicious but also a unique cooking experience!

For a real taste of local culture, check out the festivals if you’re there in summer. The 'Festas de São João' on Terceira Island are something else with parades and traditional bullfights.

Do you guys have any tips for interacting with locals or cultural etiquette I should be aware of?

Azoreans are very friendly, but it’s good to learn a few Portuguese phrases. Also, always show respect when discussing their traditions and be polite in your interactions.

And when visiting churches or other religious sites, dress modestly out of respect for their customs.

Look for handmade ceramics and blankets in local markets. They reflect the Azorean artistry and make great keepsakes.
