You have to visit the fumaroles in Furnas on São Miguel! Cooking your meal in the volcanic steam is something else. And don’t miss the thermal baths there!

If you’re into hiking, check out the trails on Pico Island. The climb up Mount Pico is tough but the views are worth it. Plus, the vineyards around the island are amazing for a post-hike wine.

For a real adventure, go snorkeling or diving to see the underwater volcanic arches near Santa Maria Island. It’s like a whole other world down there.

These are fantastic suggestions, thanks! What about local foods I should try? Any recommendations for local eateries?

Definitely try ‘Cozido das Furnas’—meat and veggies cooked underground by volcanic steam. And for a sweet treat, the pineapples from São Miguel are the best.

If you find yourself on Terceira, the seafood restaurants in Angra do Heroísmo offer fresh catch and local dishes. Octopus and limpets are must-tries!

Speaking of culture, any festivals or local events that I shouldn’t miss?

I read about the 'Festas do Espírito Santo', which happen from May to September. They involve traditional processions, music, and food. It seems like a great way to experience local culture!

Yes, those are great! Each village has its own version of the festival, so you’ll get a slightly different experience depending on where you are.

Last question, any tips on getting around the islands?

Renting a car is the best way to get around the islands independently. Public transport exists but can be sporadic, especially on the smaller islands.
