Just returned from Pico in the Azores and I'm already planning my next trip back! The island's quiet charm completely won me over. Has anyone else been?
Pico's been on my radar! I hear it's less touristy compared to São Miguel. Did you find that to be true?
Absolutely, it's much quieter but every bit as beautiful. If you love nature and want to avoid the crowds, Pico's perfect.
Sounds ideal. What were some highlights from your trip?
Climbing Mount Pico was unforgettable—such a challenge but the views are worth it! Also, the vineyards are unlike anything I've seen before. They're UNESCO listed!
Wow, climbing a volcano! Was it very technical? Do you need special equipment?
It's strenuous but doable for someone with good fitness. No special equipment needed, just sturdy shoes and plenty of water. There are guided tours as well, which can be really helpful.
Thanks for the tip! How about food? Any local dishes you'd recommend?
The seafood is fresh and delicious—try the lapas, grilled limpets, and the local wine. There’s a great little restaurant in Madalena that serves amazing octopus salad.
That sounds delicious! Last question, where did you stay?
I stayed at a small guesthouse in São Roque. Ocean views, friendly hosts, and not too pricey. Perfect base for exploring the island.
You've sold me on it. Thanks for all the great info!
Anytime! Pico is a real gem, I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I did. Enjoy your trip!
